Oracle’s rally briefly made cofounder Larry Ellison the world’s richest person, ahead of Elon Musk

OracleORCL $319.39 (-2.72%) pulled off one of the biggest rallies in its stock market history, as shares soared 36% on Wednesday after the company laid out a cloud business growth forecast that left analysts “blown away.”

What also went vertical, alongside the stock, was cofounder Larry Ellison’s fortune.

According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, Ellison’s net worth jumped by a record $89 billion to $383 billion, the biggest single-day gain ever, briefly overtaking Elon Musk’s fortune and making him, for a moment, the world’s richest person. Musk reclaimed the top spot by the end of Wednesday.

Yesterday’s remarkable gain means that Larry Ellison has now seen his estimated wealth increase by $191 billion year to date. That’s the equivalent of making $752 million a day, more than $522 thousand a minute, or $8,703 per second.

On Tuesday’s earnings call, Oracle projected its cloud revenue would climb 77% this year to $18 billion, then to a whopping $144 billion by fiscal 2030 — more than 14x last year’s haul.

Musk has held the No. 1 spot for much of the year, Bloomberg reports, though Tesla’sTSLA $361.10 (3.83%) shares are down 7.7% year to date amid mounting EV competition and Musk’s political controversies. Just last week, Tesla’s board proposed an unprecedented $1 trillion pay package for Musk.

St. Anthony Auxiliary Hosting Live Music Concert Sept. 25

Picture credit to St. Anthony Auxiliary

Members of the St. Anthony Auxiliary are excited to be welcoming back by popular demand, live music from an Iowa-based gospel music group. The Brown Family, originating from LeMars, will be performing at the Carroll Rec Center on Thursday, Sept. 25 with their Born Country program. Large Event Chairman for the St. Anthony Auxiliary Deb Quandt says the organization is excited to be welcoming the Brown Family to the Carroll community for a special event. Quandt says the concert was highly requested from individuals in the community so she recommends securing a $25 ticket sooner rather than later. All proceeds from the event will be put back into the St. Anthony Auxiliary to continue the groups mission of supporting the hospital and the Carroll community it serves. Quandt says the auxiliary has over 300 members and has donated almost one-million dollars throughout the 71 years since its inception. Quandt says the group is always looking for more volunteers and members to help out. Individuals with questions on the event or looking for volunteer opportunities can reach out to Quandt by calling 712-790-0630. Again, the St. Anthony Auxiliary members are hoping all come to join them on Thursday Sept. 25 for The Brown Family in concert starting at 7 p.m. at the Carroll Rec Center.

🍁 The Lake City Betterment Association is gearing up for its annual autumn celebration later this month, and the deadline to register for some of the planned events is approaching this weekend. The Lake City Fall Fest and Chili Cookoff is slated for Sunday, Sept. 14, in downtown. Association Secretary Kat Morris reminds parents to sign their kids up for the Fall Fest Pageant before the weekend is over. A big part of the Fall Fest each year is the hotly contested chili cookoff. Morris says they’ve made some changes this year to ensure there are no barriers for teams that want to enter. A central theme for Lake City’s Fall Fest is family-friendly fun, and Morris says that is the case again for 2025’s schedule. More than 30 vendors are expected to have stands set up around the square, and Morris says the kids will have all kinds of activities to participate in. Participants can also join in the scarecrow decorating contest, and stakes can be claimed on the south side of the square beginning Monday, Sept. 8. While all the activities, chili-tasting, and more are going on, DJ Erkenbrack will be providing live music on the square from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Again, Fall Fest is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 14, in downtown Lake City.

Idea to honor a gym member turns into new outdoor fitness court in Waukee

A new outdoor fitness court is open to the public in Waukee after its dedication on Wednesday, Sept. 10, born from an idea to remember a late local fitness community member.

The new outdoor fitness court at Ridge Pointe Park adjacent to the regional Heart of the Warrior Trail is much more than the original idea of a pull-up bar that CrossFit Waukee members had suggested to the city to remember former gym member Kara Ungerman.

The court is a free to use, seven-station bodyweight circuit training system for people 14 years and older to do core, squat, push, pull, lunge, agility and bending exercises. A free mobile app is available to coach workouts.

Ungerman died two years ago shortly after giving birth to her first child, according to an Instagram post from CrossFit Waukee. She had a love for fitness, specifically pull-ups.

Ungerman's husband Andy Ungerman, along with CrossFit Waukee member Brad Munford and CrossFit Waukee gym co-owner Laura Hoegh, began to discuss how they could use money donated in her honor to give back to the community.

"We're in life together. Let's work out together," Hoegh said Wednesday.

That led to Matt Jermier, Waukee's Parks and Recreation director. Jermier combined the group's idea with what he knew about the National Fitness Campaign — a wellness consulting firm with the aim of funding 5,000 outdoor fitness courts across the U.S. by 2030, according to its website.

Waukee's outdoor fitness court is one of only six in Iowa listed as funded by the National Fitness Campaign. The other five courts are at Riverview Park in Clinton, Iowa Lakes Community College in Emmetsburg, Municipal Park in Le Mars, Marshalltown High School and Buchanan Park in Milford.

The fitness court in Waukee, with landscaping, cost $185,000, according to a city news release. The National Fitness Campaign contributed $30,000, and the city also received support from the Dallas County Foundation, the Rotary Club of Waukee, I-80 Concrete and CrossFit Waukee.

Rules for use of the outdoor fitness court and links to the mobile workout app are available at waukee.org/564/Ridge-Pointe-Park.

Reggie Hoegh, co-owner of the CrossFit Waukee gym, said workouts last 45 seconds followed by 15 seconds of transition time to the next station.
