This upcoming Saturday, join the Breda American Legion Post 607 for the first rocky mountain oyster fry, the beginning of the next annual tradition. A new fundraising opportunity for the organization, legion members invite everyone out to sample some deep-fried pork testicles to expand one’s taste palate. Legion member Kevin Stork says the legion hall was looking for a new event to bring to the area and hopes to make this an annual fry. The Rocky Mountain oyster fry will begin at 5:30 p.m. this Saturday and run until 9 p.m. or until the food is gone. Stork says those who don’t want to be adventurous with their food will have other options to choose from, as well as a cash bar available. Stork wants to remind everyone that if they can’t attend the new fundraising event on Saturday, they can still support the Breda American Legion every Sunday afternoon.

Again, Stork and the rest of the legion members welcome everyone to come have a ball, literally, on Saturday night for the first free-will donation rocky mountain oyster fry from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. or until food runs out. facebook

šŸ‘¼ The 10 Squared Women of Guthrie County concluded 2024 by donating $14,600 to the Friends of the Mary J. Barnett Library in Guthrie Center. The funds will help the library purchase new furnishings for its children’s area, designed to be accessible for any of its young patrons. Library Director Jerri Hawkins says, ā€œOur goal is to create a children’s area that is inclusive and accessible for all, including those with mobility and sensory challenges. Research indicates that 15-20 percent of the global population identifies as neurodivergent, highlighting the importance of having inclusive spaces.ā€ An added benefit of the new furniture is that it specifically designed for library spaces, making it long-lasting and easy to clean. The organization now boasts 145 members and hopes to reach 200 in 2025. Members meet four times per year and pledge to donate $100 to the quarter’s chosen cause. Those donations, combined with employers’ matching contributions, are leveraged to make a significant impact in the communities in which these women live and work. Since its inception in 2017, the 10 Squared Women of Guthrie County group has donated over $372,000 to local causes, including area police and fire departments, youth summer food programs, and many others. šŸ„ Crawford County Memorial Hospital’s (CCMH) new state-of-the-art Computed Tomography (CT) machine is now available to service patients with advanced imaging capabilities. The CCMH Board of Trustees approved this latest addition to the radiology department as a way to save patients from needing to travel long distances to receive high-quality imaging services. CEO and President of CCMH Erin Much says, ā€œThis upgrade reflects the CCMH Board’s dedication to ensuring all Crawford County residents and communities have access to advanced diagnostic tools close to home.ā€ CCMH Director of Radiology Katie Tremel says, ā€œThe new CT machine features the newest imaging technology, allowing for vastly improved image clarity and reduced radiation exposure for our patients. It not only improves the quality of the imaging but also ensures a faster and more comfortable experience for patients. This means shorter scan times and quicker results, which can be critical for early diagnosis and treatment, by enhancing diagnostic capabilities, allowing our providers to detect and diagnose conditions with greater accuracy and efficiency.ā€ The CT machine further promotes CCMH’s mission to provide convenient access to safe, high-quality, patient-centered healthcare by skilled and trusted professionals while exceeding customer expectations, and radiology staff look forward to continuing to provide exceptional care to patients with the newest, highly developed CT technology.

🫶 The City of Lake City will start a new initiative to recognize residents who go above and beyond for others and support the community. The ā€œThank a Citizenā€ recognition award was brought up to the city council months ago by a resident looking to promote positive ty and acknowledge individuals who contribute to Lake City and its community members in many ways. The city council supported this from the beginning but wanted to finish and approve the city’s new logo before creating a certificate that would be presented to the award winners. Nomination forms can be found at City Hall and, once filled out, returned back for the City Council to review, and approve a nominee. The ā€œThank a Citizenā€ award winner will be publicly recognized during city council meetings, social media, and more for the work and efforts put in for the betterment of the community. City Administrator Jacob Matthews says, ā€œThis award is an opportunity to tell a story, to share the good things that happen in the community that often go unseen as they are not publicly displayed. By recognizing individuals who deserve to be awarded with such a designation, positivity will grow and further promote Lake City as the wonderful community it is.ā€ Again, those wishing to partake and nominate someone for the ā€œThank a Citizenā€ award can do so by filling out a form available at Lake City City Hall.

If you build it, they will come — including Tim McGraw.

  • The country superstar is holding a special one-night concert at the "Field of Dreams" movie site in Dyersville on Aug. 30, according to a news release from StubHub.

Why it matters: The rural tourist attraction has grown into more than just a movie site ever since Iowa hosted its first-ever MLB game between the White Sox and Yankees in 2021.

Zoom in: Tickets on StubHub, the official ticket seller for the event, range from $99 for general admission to $500 for "Home Run VIP" amenities like a private bar and free merchandise.

  • Concertgoers will also get to walk around the movie site (so expect lots of cornstalk selfies).

The intrigue: Aug. 30 is the birthday of McGraw's late father, MLB player Tug McGraw, making this an "especially meaningful event," according to StubHub's news release.

Details: Tickets go on pre-sale on Jan. 20 at 9am Central Time with an early bird price of $70.
