🌷 Spring in bloom

😁 Happy Friday! Gorilla Fight Mania. The debate has taken the internet by storm: Could 100 men armed with nothing but determination take down one gorilla? Memes are exploding across timelines, Reddit threads are overflowing with hypothetical battle strategies, and everyone seems to have a wildly different take. From tactical phalanxes to banana-based distractions, people are envisioning every possible outcome. Roblox jumps as the gaming giant tops Q1 estimates and user growth picks up steam

Bonus: no tariffs in the metaverse.

(Roblox)

Roblox shares popped as much as 7% after the gaming giant beat Q1 estimates across the board.

The company’s net loss for the quarter narrowed to $0.32 per share, better than the $0.40 expected by analysts. Bookings, a key revenue metric, hit $1.2 billion, topping both Wall Street expectations and Roblox’s own guidance of $1.12 billion to $1.15 billion. Meanwhile, daily active users soared, growing 26% to 97.8 million.

“Roblox creators earned a record $281.6 million this quarter,” CEO David Baszucki said. “More than 100 developers made over $1 million in the past year — and the community is on track to earn over $1 billion this year.”

RobloxRBLX $68.85 (2.68%) has been leveling up its ad business, recently launching rewarded video ads that let players watch 30-second clips in exchange for in-game perks. Brands will soon be able to buy these placements directly — or through Google.

🛖 The City of Glidden will be getting a brand new four-seasoned shelter house at City Park, all thanks to Endow Glidden. Discussion on renovating the current enclosed shelter house at City Park has been occurring at many city council meetings for some time now. The city was exploring the options of renovating the existing shelter or to build a complete new one, more in line with the Kruger Shelter. Glidden Mayor and Committee Member for Endow Glidden, Roger Hartwigsen, says the entire project will be funded and planned by Endow Glidden. Hartwigsen says Endow Glidden is a 501(c)3 organization that was created in 2018 by six Glidden-Ralston graduates to help promote various projects for the community. The new shelter house will be at the exact same location as the current enclosed shelter at City Park. Hartwigsen says the new shelter will not be anything fancy, just looking at building a simple structure. While unable to provide a definite timeline on the construction, Hartwigsen says city crews will come in and take down the existing building to get everything ready for the new shelter. Once completed, Endow Glidden will donate the building to the City of Glidden to maintain and run. Those interested in donating to Endow Glidden for the new shelter house or any other project they fund, contact Hartwigsen at [email protected], or by calling 712-659-3010. Check donations can also be mailed to Endow Glidden at PO Box 278, Glidden Iowa, 51443.

Educators in Des Moines, across Iowa turn out for May Day protests

Samantha Hernandez and Sabine Martin Des Moines Register

Despite the rain and cloudy skies, staff at 18 Des Moines Public Schools walked into work together for International Workers Day and to make a statement about education cuts, including those made by the Trump administration.

Nationally, public school staff are looking for ways to say "enough is enough" and want politicians to stop attacking students and schools, said Iowa State Education Association President Josh Brown to the small group gathered at 7 a.m. May 1 outside Carver Community School.

Brown has visited about 150 classrooms over the course of the 2024-25 school year and said, in his experience, public school staff remain devoted to their students despite the upheaval.

"Regardless of if it's a small town or a large city like Des Moines, great things are happening with our educators, with our education support professionals and people care about the students, care about the education," he said.

The formal gathering lasted about five minutes before staff headed inside to start the day. Superintendent Ian Roberts and Des Moines Education Association President Anne Cross attended several of the gatherings, including at Carver.

The walk-ins were organized by the teachers unions. full story
