Forecast Near Perfect For Sunday's Flight Breakfast At Arthur N. Neu Airport

The Carroll Signet Masonic Lodge’s and Carroll Aviation’s annual flight breakfast is scheduled for this weekend at the Arthur N. Neu Municipal Airport, and the weather forecast suggests a near-perfect day for the event. The Masons will begin serving meals at 6:30 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 8, in the airport’s hanger. Joe Reed, one of the Masons who helps organize the day’s program, says they have a delicious breakfast for those who plan to attend. The cost per meal is $10 for adults, $8 for children between six and 12 years old, and kids five and under eat for free. The Masons will stop serving food at 1 p.m. Sunday’s forecast calls for sunny skies and temperatures topping out around 80 degrees Fahrenheit. Reid says that should lead to plenty of aircraft flying to Carroll that morning.
The plane rides offered by Carroll Aviation are $35 per person during the flight breakfast. Reed says Sunday is the Carroll lodge’s largest fundraiser of the year, which the Masons use to back area organizations and programs.
Again, the 2024 Carroll Signet Masonic Lodge flight breakfast will be held from 6:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 8, at the Arthur N. Neu Municipal Airport east of Carroll.

💧 The Denison Municipal Utilities checks off the next project in Phase One of the water system improvement project by placing the new water tower in service today (Friday). The $4.8 million project was introduced in 2022 by DMU to improve the city’s water infrastructure by increasing the system’s reliability and replacing an outdated system to increase safety and the capacity of the water supply. The demolishing of the previous storage tank on N. 24th Street and replacing it with a 500,000-gallon, 63-foot water tower was only a small part of the complete project. The project also entails constructing a new pumping station on 18th Street that will send water to the new water tower, 4,755 feet of 12-inch water mains, additional fire hydrants, and installing two pressure-reducing valves. The new water tower will increase water pressure for consumers in the service area by approximately 27 pounds per square inch (PSI), resulting in increased flows to the property.

Home Price Cuts Reach Highest Level in 5 Years as Sellers Show ‘Patience and Modesty’

Sep 5, 2024
The usually hot summer housing market wilted last month, likely due to the continued heat of stubbornly high mortgage rates.
And that could be great news for homebuyers.
A new report by Realtor.com® found that the number of homes actively for sale in August was 36.2% higher than the year prior, marking the 10th consecutive month of growth.
That means the number of listings is “now at its highest level since May 2020,” says Realtor.com senior economist Ralph McLaughlin in his recent analysis.
Buyers have not only more choices in general but also more bargain-friendly homes to consider. In August, 19.3% of listings saw price reductions. That’s the highest amount for an August since 2018, which is welcome news for buyers weary of sticker shock.
What does this all reveal about the state of the housing market? Buyers might be gaining the upper hand.
“A growing number of homes on the market and rising share of price cuts indicate that today’s housing market isn’t as heavily tipped toward sellers as it has been in recent years,” says Realtor.com® Chief Economist Danielle Hale.
“Sellers are increasingly showing patience and modesty—something buyers haven’t much experienced in the post-pandemic housing market,” McLaughlin adds. FULL STORY

Visitors explore Treehouse Village at the Iowa Arboretum and Gardens near Madrid in central Iowa.
The Iowa Arboretum and Gardens in Boone County celebrated the opening of its $2 million Adele and Dean Bowden Treehouse Village Wednesday.
Kids and adults explored gazebos tucked into an old oak forest, a large suspension bridge and a collection of wooden treehouses connected by ramps, rope nets and climbing walls. Adaptive equipment, like wheelchair swings and a ground-level zipline, are a few of the features that make this nature-inspired play area accessible to people of all abilities.
"There’s nothing like this in Iowa, and we are excited to introduce Treehouse Village to the public,” said Mark Schneider, the executive director of the Iowa Arboretum.
Schneider said the idea for Treehouse Village was born four years ago.
"We wanted to get families outdoors; we wanted to get families to the arboretum; we wanted something that was accessible, and we also wanted something that was architecturally interesting, and it kind of grew out of the woods where it’s located,” Schneider said. FULL STORY
