Crocs kicks up strong Q1 results but pulls guidance as trade fears loom

The funky footwear brand is winning over new fans even amid global uncertainty.

CrocsCROX $111.50 (10.66%) shares jumped double digits after the quirky shoe brand posted a strong first-quarter beat.

Diluted EPS came in at $2.83, easily topping FactSet estimates of $2.48. Revenue climbed to $937 million, ahead of the company’s own forecast and well above Wall Street’s $908 million target.

The company’s HEYDUDE brand also crushed expectations, bringing in $175.7 million, beating both the company’s forecast and Wall Street’s $166.3 million estimate.

Crocs highlighted several high-profile collabs that helped drive engagement during the quarter, including a buzzy drop with Tokyo streetwear brand BAPE which sparked huge waitlists, app and web traffic spikes, and nearly 70% new customer acquisition.

Still, the road ahead may be less comfy. Crocs withdrew its full-year guidance, citing a murky global trade environment and rising consumer uncertainty, making it difficult to forecast demand.

“It is possible that in the future, we could see softer demand for footwear and other consumer goods,” said CEO Andrew Rees in the company’s earnings call, “particularly given the potential for increased costs and higher prices across the industry that could further burden an already choiceful consumer.”

After the post-earnings pop, Crocs shares are now up around 2% on the year. see chart

💰️ The City of Manning is in the running for a $1.75 million grant from the Iowa Economic Development Authority (IEDA) to implement the projects laid out in the Comprehensive Neighborhood Revitalization Plan. Manning was one of three communities in Iowa that was selected to apply for this grant, after submitting the Comprehensive Neighborhood Revitalization Plan to the IEDA back in November. City Administrator, Dawn Meyer says the grant application has projects that are totaling over $2.5 million. Jean Stadtlander, a steering committee member, said the project initially totaled over $3 million, but they were able to cut back in the budget thanks to local businesses, individuals and city crews who offered some of the materials and labor services for many of the projects listed. Meyer says with the projects estimates coming in over the grant funding amount, the City of Manning needs to provide a match fund which will improve the chances of being selected. Meyer says roughly $270,000 still needs to be secured to meet the matching goal. While the full project will not be completed unless the grant is secured, Stadtlander says the park updates are important for members of the community and certain updates will be completed no matter what. Both Meyer and Stadtlander say it’s amazing how overwhelmingly supportive the Manning community is on this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. For more information on the project, grant or if interested in making a pledge for the matching funds, contact Meyer at City Hall by calling 712-655-2176.

💧 The City of Kimballton in Audubon County has issued a bottled water advisory for the entire community. Earlier today (Wednesday), the water system’s wells failed to come online, which resulted in the water tower being depleted of water, affecting approximately 207 customers. A bottled water advisory is in place due to the city issuing a notice last month of increased levels of manganese. Though commonly found in water, the higher level can cause health effects to infants, and is advised to not be given to children six months and under. The water should NOT be boiled, as manganese remains behind when water evaporates, making it more concentrated. Until samples have returned being negative for any bacteria, bottled water should be used for consumption, such as food preparation, brushing teeth, drinking, and making ice. City water may still be used for bathing and general cleaning. This advisory remains in effect until further notice.

⚠️ A substantial road reconstruction project in Brayton will limit access through the summer and is set to get underway next week. According to the Audubon County Road Department, crews will close County Road F65, also known as 320th Street, in the community to strip the existing pavement and replace the surface with a new layer. Construction is expected to last approximately 12 weeks, with a weather-dependent projected end date of Aug. 8. The construction may impact access to homes in the project area at times, but contractors will work with residents to minimize disruptions. Traffic on nearby U.S. Highway 71 should not be impacted by the construction. Questions about this work should be directed to the Audubon County Road Department by calling 712-563-4286 or using the email address included here.

Mississippi River named the most endangered of 2025 by non-profit American Rivers

The Mississippi River is the nation’s most endangered river, a national conservation group says, because of federal plans to cut flood relief programs as severe weather threats grow.

American Rivers, a nonprofit environmental advocacy organization, has issued an annual list of U.S. rivers it views as most at-risk for the past 40 years. The Mississippi’s place at the top comes as communities along the lower river flooded from torrential rain in early April, and as Trump administration officials consider eliminating the Federal Emergency Management Agency, or FEMA, which helps state and local governments respond to disasters.

The list calls attention to the threats rivers face and prioritizes those for which the public can influence policies that affect their well-being, said Mike Sertle, senior director for American Rivers’ Central Region. For the Mississippi River, he said, the organization’s goal is to press the federal government to maintain a role in disaster relief, which it says is critical to safeguarding people in river communities.

“We don’t disagree that things need to be reviewed and updated,” Sertle said. “But we also see there’s importance to keeping the agency.” full story
