Google’sGOOGL $251.54 (0.81%) Waymo is expanding to Nashville next year, where it will be the first autonomous car service in the area, and it’s partnering with LyftLYFT $22.42 (-1.86%) to do so.
Shares of Lyft surged 9.3% shortly after markets opened. Competitor UberUBER $94.53 (1.69%), which has a similar partnership with Waymo in other cities, fell 3.4%.
Over time, Waymo says it expects to operate “hundreds” of vehicles in Nashville, where it’s been testing since March.
Lyft will be responsible for fleet management, including vehicle maintenance and depot operations. Customers will initially hail rides through Waymo’s app, and will be able to be matched with a Waymo through Lyft’s app as well later in 2026.
Waymo currently operates more than 2,000 autonomous taxis in five US markets, with plans to move into six more markets, including Nashville, while testing in about a dozen others. Waymo is now doing “hundreds of thousands” of paid, fully autonomous rides per week, which the company says is up from the quarter of a million rides per week it was delivering earlier this year.

🚶 The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP), with the help of a local facilitator will be hosting the fourth annual Walk with SW Iowa for suicide prevention awareness this Saturday in Manning. AFSP SW Iowa Committee Chair and walk organizer Amanda Arneson says she has always been passionate about mental health and being able to help individuals find resources to help them in the ways they need. September is Suicide Prevention Month and she and her husband came together to talk about getting something organized to continue spreading awareness. The Suicide Prevention Walk will start at the Manning City Park with registration or check in at 1 p.m. with a speaker and short ceremony at 1:45 p.m. Arneson says before the two-mile walk begins. There is no fee to participate but donations are strongly encouraged to continue with research and to promote mental health resources in underserved communities. Arneson says there will be activities, food, and stations set up to gather more information, along with a memorial tent. Each year, Arneson says the event raises on average $3,000 that is donated back to AFSP to continue to promote suicide prevention awareness and she says they have already surpassed the goal but would like to see how much more they can raise to help with the cause. Arneson says if anything is taken away from this, it’s that it is okay to not be okay but you do not have to go through it alone. 🏥 Loring Hospital staff and administration welcomed everyone who attended Monday’s ribbon cutting celebrating the completion of the hospital’s expansion project and the opening of the new UnityPoint Clinic in Sac City. The 42,000 square-foot expansion project broke ground in March of 2024, adding several new rooms to accommodate outpatient services such as rehabilitation, pulmonary and cardiac rehab, specialty clinic, diabetes and nutrition services and the new primary care clinic. Loring Hospital Board of Directors and administration has been working on the plan for the expansion since 2021, being officially approved by the board in 2023. The $40.7 million project was primarily funded through a United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development loan for $37.1 million announced in Jan. 2024, a $750,000 donation from Loring Healthcare Foundation earlier this year, plus other fundraising events. The opening ceremony gave individuals the opportunity to tour the new expansion, celebrating Loring Hospital’s continued success of serving the Sac City and surrounding communities for the past 75 years. Pictures from the event can be found on Loring Hospital’s Facebook page.

U.S. Sen. Chuck Grassley celebrated his 92nd birthday with one of his favorite treats — a Dairy Queen Blizzard.
A Reese's Peanut Butter Cup Blizzard, to be precise, courtesy of U.S. Sen. Tim Scott of South Carolina. Grassley snacked on the treat while working in Washington, D.C., on his birthday, Wednesday, Sept. 17.
Grassley was born in 1933, when Franklin Roosevelt was still in the first year of his presidency.
Iowa Sen. Joni Ernst also celebrated Grassley's birthday Wednesday by bringing him a Dairy Queen ice cream cake. Grassley often posts on social media about his trips to Dairy Queen on his sojourns in Iowa.

The oldest member of the Senate, Grassley is the chamber's president pro tempore, placing him line to succeed the president, behind the vice president and House speaker.
The post goes to the longest-serving senator in the party with a majority in the chamber. Grassley has served in the U.S. Senate since 1981. He has served in public office in state or federal government since 1958. full story and photos
